A long-time wrestler in TJPW, who has made numerous appearances in AEW alongside tours of the US with GCW, has announced she’s a free agent.
Maki Itoh, a former two-time International Princess Champion and Tag Team Champion in TJPW, today announced on X that her contract with Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling had come to an end. Reports state that Itoh and the company had held discussions of a new deal but ultimately decided to let the deal expire.
Itoh, the ‘Cutest in the World, got fame after wrestling following being fired from the infamously ruthless Idol entertainment world in Japan, which got one of the nicknames of being the Fired Idol. Incorporating singing into her entrance, she also used mocking from the media early in her life to influence her moves, such as using Headbutts as a key strike. Her foul-mouthed grasp of the English language and frequent use of the middle finger gesture helped get attention from around the world. This helped lead to a number of appearances in All Elite Wrestling a few years ago. Taking part in the Japanese bracket of the AEW Women’s World Championship Tournament in 2021, and as the mystery Joker of the 2022 Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament. She has also gone on many tours of the US, usually for Game Changer Wrestling where is is a former GCW Extreme Champion.
With her unique look and attitude, no doubt Itoh will continue to thrill wrestling fans and we can’t wait to see where the Cutest in the World next appears!
