Welcome one and all to the RAW RECAP presented by THE REVELLEUTION!
Money in the Bank approaches with two spots still left in the Women’s Match. Will we see one of those spots filled this week? Meanwhile, a pre-Raw social media video indicated that Lyra Valkyria and Becky Lynch will have a rematch for the Intercontinental Championship at the MITB event. Rumours also have it that Liv Morgan has wrapped movie shoot duties and will return to the WWE this week. What twists and turns will we see this week? Let’s get into it, and find out…
This week’s ‘Arrived Earlier Today’ videos featured Women’s IC Champ LYRA VALKYRIA.
In the Judgement Day clubhouse, ROXANNE PEREZ tried to put moves on Dominik Mysterio with an offer of a massive plate of chicken nuggets and the offer of a shoulder rub. LIV MORGAN walked in on that (much to Finn Balor’s delight) and stated that she’d been kept informed of things by RAQUEL RODRIGUEZ. Morgan claimed she would ‘address’ things later but would go to Adam Pearce to get a MITB qualifier. She left with a gloating Rodriguez and Mysterio seemed torn while Perez looked mad at her plans not working out so far.
NATALYA and MAXXINE DUPRI gave Akira Tozawa a pep talk ahead of his match with Rusev. Dupri would accompany Tozawa for that match that Rusev won.
CATHY KELLEY handled interview duties.
Backstage Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez confronted Women’s World Champion IYO SKY and KAIRI SANE. Morgan mocked the fact that Damage CTRL was dead and repeatedly pointed out that Sane failed to win last week. Sane had heard enough and talked back in her native tongue before she challenged Morgan to a match tonight and poked Morgan in the forehead, and Morgan accepted.
Singles Match
KAIRI SANE defeated Women’s Tag Team Champion LIV MORGAN w/h RAQUEL RODRIGUEZ
Sane won a collar-and-elbow lock up but got shoved away after the break, and Morgan used a hair pull to slam Sane down. Sane got roughed up with stomps in one corner then clubbing shots in another. Morgan screamed at the ref but it allowed Sane to fight back with chops then punches. Later, Sane would use her vault-back Headscissors to set up the Sliding D against the ropes. On the apron, Sane missed a kick that hit the ring post and Morgan took advantage to hit a Sunset Flip Powerbomb from the apron to plant Sane on the floor!
Back in the ring, Morgan went for Three Amigos but Sane escaped the third and soon after hit the Interceptor Spear. Sane hit a couple of Polish Hammers, a Crossbody and then a Running Blockbuster that set up the Sliding D to the corner. Sane hit the Flying Forearm for a near fall. Sane ducked an Enzigiri by Morgan and locked in the Anchor submission but Morgan escaped by pulling the hair. Morgan countered a charge to the corner with both feet into a Double Stomp, then hit a Codebreaker from the middle ropes for a near fall.
Morgan went for ObLIVion but Sane held onto the ropes and hit the Cutlass Backfist followed by a Running Forearm for a two count. Morgan used a counter Sunset Flip to get a near fall, then blocked a second Cutlass to hit a Backstabber. Sane tried lifting up Morgan for a move but it got botched but Sane saved it with a Jackknife pin for a near fall. Sane hit a Waterwheel Slam and went for the InSane Elbow but as Rodriguez got on the apron to distract, Roxanne Perez appeared and shoved Sane off the ropes.
The interference didn’t seem to be in the plan as Rodriguez was yelling at Perez, and that distracted Morgan. Morgan tried for ObLIVion but Sane countered with a Roll-up and got the three count. That left Morgan furious in the ring with Rodriguez while Perez shook her head not understanding the rage.
RHEA RIPLEY had a hype video.
In the Judgement Day clubhouse, Dominik Mysterio claimed he didn’t see what happened in Morgan’s match but Morgan instead blamed Rodriguez who as ‘the veteran’ should have known better. Morgan stormed off as Rodriguez was stunned and both Perez and Finn Balor looked pleased with this turn of events.
Lyra Valkyria went to the ring for a promo. The WWE confirmed that Valkyria and Becky Lynch would have a rematch at MITB for the Women’s IC title. Valkyria said that Lynch had talked her way to get this match, and said she had nothing to prove against Lynch after beating her twice. Valkyria said she didn’t feel like a winner after Lynch got her rant after Backlash, and said things were personal now.
BECKY LYNCH eventually came out to interrupt and claimed she had been ‘done’ with Valkyria. Both took personal shots as Lynch called Valkyria’s fiancé ‘weird’ while Valkyria claimed Lynch’s husband was the ‘only talented thing about her’. Lynch ranted that she was the best thing that ever happened to Valkyria who fired back that people are talking about her because she beat Lynch. Lynch raised the stakes and said that if she lost at MITB, she wouldn’t challenge for the title again, but also said that Valkyria would have to raise her arm in victory if she won. Valkyria sort of accepted and said she never had an issue respecting the better woman, but it just would never be Lynch.
SCARLETT was with Karrion Kross as Kross tried to provoke Sami Zayn.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
It was a good match between Sane and Morgan only hurt with the slight botches near the end. It was more a match that got over the Judgement Day storyline than anything else, and wasn’t an official MITB qualifier. We’ll wait and see who gets the last women’s spot on Raw next week. Elsewhere, Lynch and Valkyria had a solid promo with back-and-forth insults. It did the job, and while the extra ‘stipulations’ add a little interest, it doesn’t majorly change things with the storyline. Of course, it’s a good thing to get an additional women’s match at MITB event along with the Women’s Ladder Match so we can be thankful for that.
That’s your lot for this week! Be sure to stop by in seven days’ time for the next edition of the RAW RECAP! See you then!
