RAW RECAP 06/01/20: A Punch and a Brawl to Kick Off 2020

Welcome one and all to the RAW RECAP presented by THE REVELLEUTION! It’s the first Raw of the year and we’re building towards the Royal Rumble. Charlotte Flair has already announced herself as being a part of the Women’s Rumble Match. While Becky Lynch will finally get her shot at Asuka, but at the price of the bout being for the Raw Women’s Championship. Oh, and the small matter of the controversal storyline of Liv Morgan being in love with Lana having crashed the Lashley-Lana wedding last week. What twists and turns will we witness this week? Let’s get into it and find out…

SARAH SCHREIBER and CHARLY CARUSO handled interview duties on the show.

ZELINA VEGA accompanied her client Andrade for his US Title match against Rey Mysterio. At the end of the match Vega and Mysterio collided, and Mysterio was more concerned about the collision than Andrade was who took advantage to steal the win.

BECKY LYNCH went to the ring for an usually heartfelt promo about self-doubt. It was interrupted by ASUKA who ranted in her native tongue. Lynch eventually had enough and clocked Asuka with a punch before confidently leaving the ring, as Asuka threw a fit in anger.

LANA and Bobby Lashley ‘finished’ their wedding, before Rusev appeared on the big screen to show a ‘Wedding Album’ of humiliating shots from last week. Later, LIV MORGAN said she’d be in Rusev’s corner to counter Lana being in Lashley’s for a match next week.

A match up between SARAH LOGAN and CHARLOTTE FLAIR never happened as Logan jumped Flair before the bell could sound. After messing with Flair’s robe, Logan soon paid the price by taking a beating leading to a Fallaway Slam into the barricade.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I thought the Asuka-Lynch segment was simple and effective. Well done and continues to build the hype for their match. Flair meanwhile is being built as the strongest potential winner for the Rumble (which by WWE standards means she’s super likely not to win). Winning a brawl is just as good as winning an actual match. The WWE decided to cool off the Liv-Lana dynamic this week but we’ll see what happens next time with them. The jury’s still out on if it’ll be worth the time to follow or not.

That’s your lot for this week! Be sure to stop by in seven days time for the next edition of the RAW RECAP! See you then!
