The WWE has begun a round of letting talent go, and that includes two female Superstars being cut from the company.
According to Fightful Select Sonya Deville has been informed that her contract with the WWE will not be renewed. Deville, who began her run in sports entertainment through the Tough Enough reality show, has been both an in-ring competitor and an on-screen authority figure. She is a former Women’s Tag Team Champion, having teamed with Chelsea Green but had been stripped of the title due to injury. As of late, she had been the leader of the Pure Fusion Collective group and her last TV match had been the Women’s Royal Rumble.
Fightful Select also states that Blair Davenport has been released from the WWE. Before the WWE as Bea Prestley, Davenport had a very successful run in Stardom with a number of title reigns including the top World of Stardom title. Davenport had won the NXT Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge match in 2023 but since being called up to Smackdown had rarely appeared.
Everyone at The RevELLEution wishes both Deville and Davenport the best of luck in their future, whether it’s in or out of wrestling.
Thoughts:
Davenport had a great story of real-life comeback from a major health condition that could have worked in her favour and had the in-ring skills from her Stardom and Indies days. She was just called up without any plan for her and wasn’t given any chance, and the first real shot of her getting a story (teaming with Unholy Union) was quickly ended before it could get going. She was lost in the shuffle and then some.
Deville had battled through injuries and the terror that was the real-life stalker incident. As of late sadly both her in-ring ability and promo skills (which particularly showed as leader of PFC) have suffered and she’s not been the competitor she once was. PFC had been a failed experiment and a fair chunk of the blame for that rested on her. It’s never a good thing to see someone released, or their contract not renewed, but with the nature of sports entertainment some things have got to give and people end up being cut. We now wait to see what the next moves for Deville and Davenport will be but something tells me this won’t be the last we see of either woman in the industry.
