The hottest party of the Summer is just a few short hours away and things have certainly been heating up in the women’s division on both brands as the women of WWE prepare for this year’s SummerSlam PPV.
Over the last few months former best friends Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville have been fighting tooth and nail to get the upper hand on each other after their friendship came to an end earlier this year. Sonya Deville seemingly had the upper hand on Rose in recent weeks after cutting the locks of Mandy Rose only for Mandy to bounce back stronger than ever.
When it comes to championship action both Sasha Banks and Bayley have the entire Women’s locker-room on notice holding every available title on the main roster much to the dismay of the empress of tomorrow Asuka. Unfortunately for the role models their SummerSlam plans may not be as smooth sailing as originally planned as both women put their gold on the line against Asuka who is seeking nothing short of revenge after the pair sent Kairi Sane packing from WWE. With titles and bodies on the line who will leave SummerSlam with the ultimate bragging rights? It’s time for our SummerSlam 2020 PPV Predictions.
WWE Raw Women’s Championship: Sasha Banks Vs Asuka
Elle: I have to admit I’m pretty torn on this outcome! By now everybody knows that Sasha’s title reigns are tainted and it’s usually only a matter of time before she drops the belt after capturing it. Throw into that the frequently teased Asuka / Shayna feud and it almost feels impossible that Sasha will walk out as champion. There in that I almost get the feeling Sasha could retain as a huge swerve and if you’re going to swerve surely SummerSlam is the place to do it? If I go with my gut feeling I can’t help but feel like Asuka will not only get the RAW Women’s Championship back but also revenge to what the golden role models did to Asuka’s pal Kairi Sane. Prediction: Asuka
Adam: I think that the placement of these matches and who defends first from the Golden Role Models might decide which walks out still with their singles title. For me, I think that the seeds planted for Asuka to face Shayna Baszler make the outcome of this match clear. Banks will once again suffer the curse of being unable to defend a Raw Women’s Championship successfully. Prediction: Asuka
James: It’s hard to see both Bayley and Sasha coming out of Summerslam with both titles intact so it’s a little bit of a toss up as to which title they will inevitably feud over towards the back end of the year. My pick is on Asuka to win the RAW title but come up short against Bayley for the Smackdown title. Prediction: Asuka
WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship: Bayley Vs Asuka
Elle: It’s crazy to think our once loveable professor of huganomics has become the conniving heel we see today. Regardless of a string of losses in recent weeks Bayley has still put on one hell of a show as the cunning sneaky heel of Friday Night SmackDown and a part of me doesn’t want to see her drop the title just yet. I could easily see Asuka picking off Bayley to steal the SmackDown Women’s Championship but knowing what Bayley is willing and capable of doing is the real game changer. In the grand scheme of things I think Bayley will remain Bayley Dos Straps for the next few weeks at least with Banks and Bayley going toe to toe for the title down the line Prediction: Bayley
Adam: How can you bet against Bayley, even with the losses she’s taken as of late? She’s been so good as an evil role model and worked so well with Banks. Is it possible Asuka could win? Of course, but with the run she’s on and the potential to face new opponents after Summerslam I think that we’ll still be living in the world of Bayley Dos Straps after the show is done. Perhaps thanks to some cheating or an assist from Banks along the way. Prediction: Bayley
James: As previously mentioned I think Bayley will walk out of Summerslam with her title still intact… for now – however, this also depends on which match comes first. As it’s a little bit of pot luck, I’ll take Bayley to retain. Prediction: Bayley
Sonya Deville Vs Mandy Rose [NO DQ / Loser Leaves]
Elle: I have to say this is the match I’m most looking forward to tonight, which given the fact I’m a huge Asuka fan is a huge surprise. Sonya especially has been killing it these last few weeks and I can’t wait to see what she does within the ring. Unfortunately after this week’s news I don’t think things will pan out as originally intended which is a shame because I think the originally scheduled hair vs hair match could have been career defining for the pair. Like WrestleMania SummerSlam is usually a time for the underdogs and babyfaces to get their revenge on their rivals and celebrate in a true feel good moment with the latter half of the year focusing on new feuds to round the year out. With that in mind I have no doubt that Mandy Rose will stand tall when all is said and done and no doubt lead to Rose earning a SmackDown Women’s title shot in the next coming weeks. Prediction: Mandy Rose
Adam: Obviously, the stakes have changed for this match with shocking real world events effecting Deville. I hope that the ‘loser leaves’ stipulation will just mean a break from TV rather than a departure, but no one would blame Deville for leaving with what she’s dealing with. However, my prediction is actually the same as it would have been if it was still Hair Vs Hair – I think the WWE clearly has more stock in Rose and she would have won to keep her hair. In this case, she’ll win to ‘stay’ in WWE. I just hope this is far from the last time we’ll see Deville in the ring. Prediction: Mandy Rose
James: After recent shocking events, Sonya deserves some time off from WWE so that makes this match a little bit easier to predict. Even before these events, Mandy would probably be the obvious choice given her status in the Otis storyline too. Prediction: Mandy Rose
