Hey and welcome back to the Revelleution and some more WWE 2K22 news as earlier today WWE and 2K dropped a brand new trailer following the reveal of this year’s cover featuring lucha legend Rey Mysterio.
Before we dive into things let’s check out the brand new WWE 2K22 Trailer.
Now that was pretty awesome if I do say so myself. Like the cover I love the different approach with today’s trailer and it certainly feels like there is a new lease of energy. The trailer gives me huge SmackDown WWF vibes and I can’t get enough of it. Usually I’m a huge fan of all things gritty and a bit edgy but I honestly really did enjoy the approach this time around.
The trailer opens with a look at WWE 2K’s Headquarters with YouTube’s TimTheTatman giving an exclusive behind the scenes tour with a few surprises along the way. Given their inclusions in the trailer I imagine all superstars featured in the trailer will indeed be part of the game such as Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston who can be seen wandering the 2K floor. The returning Alexa Bliss can also be seen alongside the recently departed Lilly with Alexa having some fun in her very own playground before Matt Riddle scoots on in with a case of the munchies.
I’m not quite sure whether or not it would happen but I would absolutely love it if there was tiny section of this year’s backstage area that included Alexa’s playground, giving fans some unique OMG style moves to perform on the likes of the swing or even Lilly herself.Several easter eggs can be spotted throughout the scene including an Undertaker Urn, Jerry the King Lawler’s Crown and Robe and the women’s money in the bank briefcase. We then move onto a comical mo cap session with Bobby Lashley and Big E taking chair shots to the back much to the chagrin of MVP and the 2K employees. We then switch to the costume and design department as Rey and Dominik try to pull things together surrounded by iconic Rey pieces from over the years as WWE 2K22 plays in the background.
We then finally reach the gameplay portion of the trailer and boy do we start out sweet. The segment shows Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley facing off both in and out of the ring with the pair playing as themselves in WWE 2K22 with Rhea not taking kindly to the beating by Belair. The trailer gives us a great look at Bianca’s new model this year which has so much more detail compared to WWE2K20 and looks far superior. Belair sports her white and red attire from March of last year before delivering a knee to the gut of Ripley and a taunt to boot. The White and red lips attire has always been one of my favourite Belair attires in recent years so I’m so glad the attire made the cut. I personally love the update to Belair and speaking of updates it looks as though Ripley may have been tweaked since her last trailer, Ripley is now seen wearing a red attire with a completely different top as opposed to the blue attire last time. The update could mean that Rhea has at least 2 attires in the game or that the devs gave Rhea a complete overhaul in the time between her last trailer spot.
Belair’s cohorts The Street profits celebrate Belair’s victory before we switch to some more gameplay action as Drew delivers a claymore to Roman Reigns with McIntyre providing some development feedback suggesting a way to make the move look like it hits different. The development process comes to an abrupt end as Heyman and Roman make a drive by with Angela in hand much to the anger of Drew. Sticking with Reigns we see the tribal chief hitting Drew with a sickening spear before Kane hits Bobby Lashley with a chokeslam on the ramp. Like Rhea it looks as though Kane has also been updated since his last trailer with a more TV accurate attire unlike the previous look.
We then switch back to the women and another look at Rhea Ripley who hits an unfortunate Dana Brooke with a riptide. While we can’t see too much of Dana aside from her attire I will say the hair looks amazing from my point of view and gives me high hopes for the rest of the women and create a superstar. WWE 2K20 had some interesting hair physics to say the least so I’m seriously hopeful that this time around we finally get hair physics that we’ve all been praying for. Whilst hair physics may not seem that important to the average player, having static pieces that don’t move no matter the action and what you do seriously breaks the illusion of realism which is something that 2K are looking to provide with this title.
We then see Machine Gun Kelly rocking out possibly teasing his inclusion in the game before being interrupted by Tim who gets a shock chokeslam from the Undertaker before Taker chokeslams Bobby Roode in game. We then see the street profits celebrating in the ring in what looks like a New Entrance animation before The Miz sends an unsuspecting Seth Rollins to the outside through a table as part of the promise of a redesigned engine. We then see some brief clips of Bobby Lashley and the Ultimate Warrior with Warrior seemingly having the same model from WWE 2K20.
With the promise of fresh gameplay we see Rey Mysterio hitting a lionsault on the Miz before we get some more chair action from Big E and Lashley as Big E takes a shot to the back. On an interesting note it looks as though weapons might once again show damage with the chair now being slightly bent after taking the hit. One other thing I’m quite curious about within the trailer is that it seems like we have brand new audio clips for instances such as chair shots and superstar grunts when taking a move. It may seem like a small thing but it’s one of the many improvements that help create a much better presentation and something that WWE and 2K have been promoting in recent media blasts.
We then switch back to the entrances with a look at John Cena followed by Bianca Belair, Naomi and Kofi Kingston with most stars having updated trons and quite honestly looking seriously awesome in the process. Like I mentioned earlier it definitely seems as though hair physics have been updated with Bianca Belair’s hair whipping especially receiving a much needed update after being ridiculed in 2k20. Bianca can also be seen wearing her matching white and red jacket with Naomi sporting her pink glow attire as seen from her 2020 SmackDown run.
We then get a better look at both the Miz and Seth Rollins as they battle it out on a ladder before Seth hits a diving neckbreaker to the Miz. Like Rhea and Kane before him Seth also seemingly has an updated model and attire and looks far more detailed and superior this time around.
Following that we get a quick glimpse of MyGM with Adam Pearce, Sonya Deville, Shane McMahon and Stephanie McMahon available to choose from as your very own GM confirming both Sonya and Stephanie for this year’s game. Like Stephanie in previous years could this mean that Sonya will have multiple models to differentiate between her GM and in-ring model. I for one certainly hope so as it would be a great way to mix up different looks for Sonya like many of us have in previous years for the likes of Lana, Alicia Fox and more.
Next up we have another look at Ricochet before in comes Shotzi frickin blackheart Tanks ablazing in such a seriously awesome moment for the trailer. Not only is it super cool to see Shotzi make her 2K debut but to have such a bad ass entrance incorporated is on another level, not only but her model looks seriously cool too. It does make me wonder if Shotzi will have two entrance animations with the tank seemingly being awkward when it comes to match types such as cage matches and so forth. Not only that but can you imagine if entrance breakouts allow you to not only drive but also shoot the tank! Talk about having a blast. As I try to calm down we get some more Miz beating as John Cena sends Miz crashing to the mat with one of Cena’s go to signatures.
After that we get a look at Sasha Bank’s model in this year’s game with what looks to be a new entrance animation. Like all the other women in the trailer Sasha has received a much needed improvement compared to 2K20 sporting an attire used during her tag team championship run with Bayley and her return to SmackDown last year. The Sasha Banks awesomeness just keeps on coming today and I honestly can’t wait to see her entrance in full swing. It might only be a very brief look but I’m absolutely loving the details to the stoning of the jacket and can’t wait to get a closer inspection when I get my hands on the game.
Following Sasha we get a brief look at some more entrance animations with a look at both Macho Man Randy Savage and this year’s cover star Rey Mysterio. Macho Man looks to have the same model as in WWE 2K20 which does make me a little fearful for the likes of Lita, Trish Stratus and the rest of the female legends that usually take part in the game as all of the female legends could do with a much needed update. If it means the legends can remain in the game without being updated I’m all for it but some models have had the same entry year after year.
As the trailer rounds out we see Drew McIntyre reunited with Angela as he makes his way to the ring similar to that of the previous trailers. We also get a quick glimpse of the different covers for this year’s game as well as the 3 playable versions of the Undertaker which can be acquired when pre-ordering the game.
I don’t know about you but I seriously do love the trailer, it’s awesome to see so many people hyped for WWE 2K22 especially after such a long anticipated return and what a way to kick of 2022 with one snazzy trailer. The trailer somehow manages to encapsulate where it all started with the original SmackDown trailer yet remains fresh and a much needed change to what we have come to know.
Not only that but we have some seriously awesome looking women this time around with the potential of multiple models for the likes of Sonya Deville and possibly those who have been updated after previous trailers. Even if that may not be the case when it comes to certain superstars having multiple models, the updated models look far superior and I can’t wait to get a better look at all those we have seen so far.
So before I go too far down the rabbit hole be sure to let me know what you make of the trailer in the comments down below and don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/revelleution. Until next time I’ve been The Revelleution hoping you all have one hell of a day!
