Welcome one and all to the RAW RECAP presented by THE REVELLEUTION! SummerSlam has come and gone, and it saw the perhaps not unexpected betrayal by Dominik Mysterio to turn on Rhea Ripley and help Liv Morgan retain the Women’s World Championship. How will Ripley get some revenge over her rival and her now-former Latino Heat? And what’s next for the tag team division after The Unholy Union enlisted the aid of Blair Davenport on Smackdown to retain the tag straps by DQ? Let’s get into it, and find out…
LIV MORGAN and Dominik Mysterio got one of the ‘arriving earlier today’ videos. Later, it was confirmed that Morgan was part of the new Judgement Day when she and Mysterio appeared alongside JD McDonagh, Carlito and Finn Balor.
JACKIE REDMOND and CATHY KELLEY handled interview duties.
Singles Match
LYRA VALKYRIA defeated SHAYNA BASZLER w/h SONYA DEVILLE & ZOEY STARK by DQ
Baszler hit some strikes to start then targeted an arm with an elevated Wristlock then an Arm Wringer. The Arm Stomp followed then another elevated Wristlock but when she went for a second Arm Wringer Valkyria rolled through. While the commentators rambled about soups, Valkyria hit a Crossbody followed by a couple of Clotheslines with the good arm. Valkyria hit a round of strikes but Baszler was able to block the Enzigiri finish to it and briefly applied an Ankle Lock before Valkyria escaped with a rollout.
Valkyria was able to counter her leg being grabbed to float over and hit her delayed Doctor Bomb for a near fall. Valkyria went up top but Stark distracted her before being kicked down. After she’d jumped back down to avoid Baszler’s charge, Valkyria hit the Dropkick through the ropes to take out Deville. Baszler pounced with the Kirifuda Clutch from off the ropes but Valkyria was able to escape and tried for Nightwing, only for Baszler to escape from that.
Moments later, Valkyria hit an Enizigri then planted Baszler with Nightwing, but both Stark and Deville stormed the ring to beat down Valkyria and cause the DQ finish. DAMAGE CTRL of DAKOTA KAI, IYO SKY and KAIRI SANE ran down for a three against three fight that sent Deville’s group packing to regroup on the entranceway.
SCARLETT was part of The Final Testament video. Later, Scarlett would be at ringside as Authors of Pain faced The New Day, but the plans for the group unravelled with Odyssey Jones appeared to back up The New Day.
Backstage, IVY NILE told her boys The Creed Brothers to be careful against the Wyatt Sicks, but her being friendly with the Brothers didn’t sit well with MAXXINE DUPRI when she showed up. The Brothers left as Dupri seemed to accuse Nile of being absent on purpose while her guys beat up Dupri’s men. Chad Gable interrupted and told Dupri that she could keep the Alpha Academy name and told Nile that Dupri had nothing to offer. Nile didn’t exactly object to any of what was said and left with Gable to leave Dupri fuming.
Liv Morgan would be out to gloat as her Judgement Day beat down former member Damien Priest. Morgan would pull Balor out from a Razor’s Edge attempt to allow Mysterio to deck Preist from behind. RHEA RIPLEY would storm out and while Mysterio and Morgan tried to flee, Ripley was able to catch Morgan and hauled her back to slam her into the ringpost. Ripley tried for a Powerbomb through the announce table but Mysterio pulled her to safety and the two fled through the crowd. That left Ripley to deck JD McDonagh with a Headbutt so Priest could hit a South of Heaven chokeslam. The Terror Twins stood tall in the ring with an embrace to end the segment.
Backstage Deville’s group attacked Damage CTRL from behind and targetted Dakota Kai’s leg, before they bragged that there was no match tonight for Kai.
Singles Match
IYO SKY w/h KAIRI SANE defeated SONYA DEVILLE w/h SHAYNA BASZLER & ZOEY STARK
Deville’s mic didn’t properly work or wasn’t fully turned on for the start of her pre-match promo to mock the fact that Kai was hurt. So instead, Iyo Sky’s music hit and she came out with just Sane to take the match. Deville hit a round of strikes to start but Sky avoided a Sliding Kick to kip up. Sky used misdirection to hit a Headscissors but when she went to ran the ropes she thought better of it when Stark was ready to try and interfere. Sky hit (barely) a kick through the ropes to Stark and decked Baszler too, but the distractions let Deville send Sky into the steel steps.
After a commercial break, Deville stayed in control with kicks to Sky against the ropes before things looked a little rough from Deville with awkward slams to the front and back to the mat. Things got messy again moments later when Deville’s arm almost nailed Sky in the head for a counter move by Sky, which eventually led to a Roll-up and a two count. Deville blocked a kick and hit a Knee Strike before she missed a charge to the corner and hit the ring post. Sky hit a Dragon Screw and soon after the Shotei, then a Low Dropkick to the knee and a corner Elbow Strike.
A Missile Dropkick by Sky got a near fall. Deville hit a Knee Strike then a Running Knee for a near fall. Sky would hit her Wheelbarrow into a Double Stomp spot. Sky hit the Running Corner Meteora, which is now apparently called the Bullet Train Attack, but Stark but Deville’s leg on the rope to break a pin attempt. Sane hit Stark with a Spinning Backfist and set up Baszler for Sky to hit a Dropkick through the ropes. In shades of last week, Deville pulled Sky from the ropes like she did to Valkyria but Sky was able to escape and tossed Deville out.
In a cool moment, the Sky Pirates took flight as Sky hit a Moonsault to the floor to Deville and Baszler while Sane hit an InSane Elbow to Stark on the outside. Sky would then hit Over the Moonsault in the ring to get the clean victory over Deville. Deville didn’t seem to fully sell the finish when she left the ring.
NIKKI CROSS aka Abby the Witch accompanied The Wyatt Sicks as they defeated American Made (Gable and The Creed Brothers).
It would be announced that next week Damage CTRL’s Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane would face Shanya Baszler and Zoey Stark in a Number One Contendership Match for the Women’s Tag Team Championships.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
The Ripley and Morgan feud continuing can only be expected after the SummerSlam events. The quick hit and run worked well but let’s hope there’s more in the future and of longer stuff. Meanwhile, Valkyria and Baszler was a solid match but Valkyria has been lost in the shuffle in this mass stable and tag team feud. The DQ win did no favours to her. While Deville and Sky disappointed and that was all on Deville’s part. I wasn’t mad about the bait-and-switch to change Kai with Sky but the match just didn’t click. Deville’s offence was messy and rough so it wasn’t a good night at the office. Let’s hope it was just one bad night for her otherwise I wouldn’t have my hopes up for her group lasting long. There was also again no sight of the tag team champions on the show, let alone any follow-up to Blair Davenport helping them last week which is another disappointment. How are we supposed to be invested in a feud between tag teams when the champs aren’t even on screen?
That’s your lot for this week! Be sure to stop by in seven days’ time for the next edition of the RAW RECAP! See you then!
